Hair Planet FAQs

Choosing your Hair Extensions
.

Nano Tip Discreet individual strands with a small, lightweight fitting method. An excellent choice for adding length without necessarily adding a large amount of volume. Their small attachment points make them particularly discreet when fitted correctly. Professional fitting is recommended.

K-Tip Individual strands attached using keratin bonds, giving a secure and seamless result. The bonds are slightly larger and less lightweight than Nano Tips, but can provide excellent hold when professionally fitted. Removal and refitting is more involved than with ring-based methods, so K-Tips should be fitted and removed by a trained professional.

Clip-In Weft One of the most flexible and easiest extension methods to use and maintain. Clip-in wefts can be fitted and removed yourself in minutes with a little practice, allowing you to wear them only when you want them. They can also be easily brushed, washed and stored between uses. An excellent option for adding both volume and length without committing to permanently fitted extensions.

Weft Wefts are an excellent way to add both volume and length, with a larger amount of hair added in each row. They can be used in several ways, from adding clips to create a removable clip-in weft to having the weft professionally fitted using one of several permanent or semi-permanent fitting methods.

Still unsure? Contact us and we'll be happy to help you choose the most suitable type for your hair and the result you want.

.

For standard colours, your extensions should usually match the mid-lengths and ends of your natural hair, as this is where most of the extensions will blend. Always match to your hair in good natural daylight.

For root-stretch colours, the darker root section should also closely match your natural root colour, while the lengths and ends should blend with the lighter tones of your hair. This helps create a much more natural transition from your own hair into the extensions. Again, always match to your hair in good natural daylight.

If your hair contains several shades or you're between colours, combining two shades can often produce a more natural result than using one colour throughout.

For an easy way to compare shades at home or in the salon, our Deluxe Shade Swatch lets you match your hair directly against our colour range before ordering.

If you're unsure, send us clear photographs of your hair in natural daylight and we'll be happy to help with a colour match.

.

Yes. We offer a free colour matching service to help you find the closest shade to your natural hair.

For the most accurate match, you can send us a small sample of your hair by post and our team will compare it directly against our colour range.

Alternatively, you can send us clear photographs of your hair taken in good natural daylight. For the best result, avoid filters, flash and artificial lighting, and try to include photos showing both the back and sides of your hair.

Please bear in mind that photographic colour matching can be affected by lighting, camera settings and your screen, so a physical hair sample will always provide the most accurate comparison.

.

The amount of hair you need will depend on your natural hair thickness, the length you want to achieve and whether you're looking to add a little extra volume or create a full transformation.

As a general guide:

Nano Tip Extensions – Around 100–125 strands can be suitable for adding thickness or a half-head fitting, while approximately 200–225 strands are commonly used for a full head.

K-Tip Extensions – The amount required will vary depending on your natural hair density and desired result. As these are individual 1g strands, your professional stylist will be able to advise how many are needed for the finished look you want.

Weft & Clip-In Weft Extensions – Around 100g is a good starting point for adding thickness and volume, while approximately 200g will suit most customers looking for a fuller head of extensions.

These amounts are only a guide. Someone with very thick natural hair, a short blunt haircut or who is adding a lot of extra length may require more hair to achieve a natural blend.

If you're unsure how much to order, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

.

The right length will depend on your natural hair, your height and the finished look you want to achieve.

When choosing your extensions, remember that the listed length is measured with the hair straight. The same length can therefore look quite different from person to person, and curled or waved hair will appear shorter once styled.

As a general guide, shorter lengths are ideal for adding natural-looking thickness and a modest amount of extra length, while longer extensions create a more noticeable transformation.

For the best idea of where a particular length will sit on you, measure down from roughly where the extensions will be fitted to where you would like the hair to finish.

If your natural hair is quite short or has a blunt cut, choosing a very long extension may also require more hair to create a smooth, natural blend.

If you're unsure which length will give you the look you're after, please contact us and we'll be happy to advise.

Fitting & Removal
.

With the exception of Clip-In Wefts, we strongly recommend that all Hair Planet extensions are fitted by a suitably trained hair extension professional.

Correct fitting is important for comfort, appearance and the longevity of both your extensions and your natural hair. An experienced fitter will also be able to advise on the most suitable fitting method, placement and amount of hair for your individual hair type.

.

Clip-In Wefts are designed to be fitted and removed at home and can usually be applied in just a few minutes with a little practice.

For Nano Tips, K-Tips and professionally fitted wefts, we strongly recommend using a trained hair extension professional. Incorrect fitting can affect the finished result, reduce the lifespan of the extensions and potentially cause unnecessary stress to your natural hair.

.

This depends on the fitting method, how quickly your natural hair grows and how well the extensions are maintained.

As your natural hair grows, professionally fitted extensions will gradually move further away from the scalp and will eventually require maintenance, adjustment or removal and refitting.

It is also important to remember that your natural hair sheds as part of its normal growth cycle. When you are wearing extensions, some of these naturally shed hairs cannot simply fall away because they remain trapped within or around the extension bond or attachment point.

As the extensions grow out, you may therefore notice loose-looking hairs around the bonds. This can sometimes be mistaken for the extensions themselves shedding, when it is actually your own naturally shed hair being retained by the fitting.

This is another reason why regular maintenance is important. As natural hair growth and shedding accumulate around the attachment points, extensions need to be professionally checked, separated and adjusted or refitted as required to help prevent tangling or matting.

Your extension professional will be able to recommend a maintenance schedule based on the fitting method, your natural hair growth and your individual hair type.

.

Yes. We strongly recommend that professionally fitted extensions are also professionally removed.

Different fitting methods require different removal techniques and products. Attempting to pull, cut or remove extensions incorrectly can cause unnecessary damage to your natural hair.

Clip-In Wefts are the exception and can simply be unclipped and removed whenever you choose.

.

In many cases, yes, although this depends on the type of extension, the fitting method and the condition of the hair.

Clip-In Wefts are naturally designed to be worn and removed repeatedly. Other extension types may also be suitable for reuse following professional removal, although some methods may require new fittings, bonds or other components before they can be reapplied.

Your extension professional will be able to assess the condition of the hair and advise whether it is suitable for refitting.

.

Clip-In Wefts are designed to be quick and easy to fit at home.

Simply section your natural hair, position the weft close to the root and secure each clip before allowing your natural hair to fall back over the weft. Repeat as required and gently blend your natural hair with the extensions.

To remove them, carefully open each clip before lifting the weft away from your hair. Never pull or drag the weft out while the clips are still closed.

With a little practice, Clip-In Wefts can be fitted or removed in just a few minutes, making them an ideal option if you want to add length and volume only when you choose.

Hair Care & Maintenance
.

Treat your extensions gently and use products specifically designed for hair extensions.

We recommend using our own HairPlanet Hair Extensions Shampoo and Conditioner, along with an extension-friendly brush. Brush regularly while supporting the hair near the attachment points to avoid unnecessary pulling or tension.

Keeping the hair properly conditioned and using suitable aftercare products will help maintain softness, shine and manageability.

.

Wash your extensions when needed rather than unnecessarily frequently.

Use our HairPlanet Hair Extensions Shampoo with lukewarm water and gently work the lather through the hair without rubbing or tangling it. Apply HairPlanet Hair Extensions Conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends, keeping conditioner away from bonds and attachment points.

Always rinse thoroughly and gently remove excess water before drying.

.

Yes. Our human hair extensions can be straightened, curled and styled much like your natural hair.

We strongly recommend using our Miracle Heat Protection Spray before heat styling and avoiding unnecessarily high temperatures, as repeated excessive heat can shorten the lifespan of the hair.

Keep heated tools and styling products away from bonds and attachment points wherever possible.

.

Never go to bed with wet or damp extensions.

Make sure the hair is completely dry and gently brushed before sleeping. Wearing the hair in a loose plait or low ponytail can help reduce tangling and friction overnight.

Our Hair Extensions Protein Revive Spray can also be used as part of your regular aftercare routine to help keep the hair conditioned, smooth and manageable.
